Where is it and how do you get there?
La Ventana is located in the municipality of La Paz, Baja California Sur, on the eastern coast of the Baja Peninsula. The bay faces directly onto the Sea of Cortez — which Jacques Cousteau called "the world's aquarium" — and is sheltered to the east by Cerralvo Island.
The closest airport is General Manuel Márquez de León International (LAP) in La Paz. From there, La Ventana is 50 km down a well-paved highway — approximately 45 minutes by rental car. Car rentals at LAP are straightforward, affordable, and highly recommended for getting around freely.
From the US and Canada — arrival airports:
✈️ La Paz (LAP) — recommended: Just 45 min to La Ventana. Direct flights from Los Angeles (~2 hrs) and San Diego (~2 hrs). From Phoenix, Seattle, Denver, or the East Coast you'll connect once — total travel around 5 to 7 hours. From Canada (Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto) expect 7 to 9 hours with a connection.
✈️ Los Cabos (SJD) — alternative: More direct US and Canadian routes, but it's 2.5 hours from La Ventana by road. A good option if you already have that flight booked or plan to visit Cabo on the same trip.
🚗 Driving the Baja: Popular among retirees with RVs — you can take the ferry from Mazatlán or Topolobampo directly to La Paz, just 45 min from La Ventana.
Most international residents fly directly into La Paz. Unlike Los Cabos, the La Paz airport is small and unhurried — you land, grab your bag, and you're on the road in 15 minutes.
The Sea of Cortez: the world's aquarium
La Ventana's bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The concentration of marine life here has no equal: over 900 species, including some of the planet's most remarkable seasonal migrations.

La Ventana is world-famous for its wind, but there's plenty for anyone who loves water sports and outdoor adventures.
Where to eat in La Ventana
La Ventana's food scene is small but authentic. You won't find chains or hotel restaurants — what you'll find is real food, with ingredients that in many cases came out of the sea that morning. During high season (November–April) the village comes alive, and the dining options are surprisingly good for a place its size.
For a night with more options, La Paz is just 45 minutes away. The capital has luxury seafood restaurants on the malecón, contemporary Mexican cuisine, craft breweries, and farmers' markets. Many residents make the drive once or twice a week.
